Roundup Causes Non Hodgkin Lymphoma
As more and more studies and scientific research reveal, the weed-killer known as Roundup causes Non Hodgkin Lymphoma, cancer and leukemia, along with other harmful Roundup side effects. Victims can seek legal compensation by contacting an injury attorney with the Willis Law Firm.
Types of Cancer Caused by Roundup
According to many medical experts, the huge-selling herbicide from biotech giant Monsanto can be to blame for many different types of cancer. Among these are:
- Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL),
- Hairy-cell leukemia,
- B-cell lymphoma,
- Multiple myeloma
- Lymphocytic lymphoma,
- Lung cancer
- Breast cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Brain cancer
- Lymphatic cancer
- Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Any of these cancers potentially could be fatal. And even if victims survive, they may face devastating financial losses due to medical bills, lost wages from being unable to work, and pain and suffering.
Other Roundup Side Effects, Complications
It’s bad enough that Roundup causes cancer. But Roundup’s chief ingredient, glyphosate, is so dangerous that it can be blamed on other Roundup side effects and complications. Including many birth defects in the children of women exposed to Roundup during pregnancy. Such birth defects can include anencephaly, by which an infant lacks a major part of the scalp, skull and brain. Other Roundup birth defects could include congenital heart defects, growth hormone deficiency, imperforate anus, a micro penis and hypospadias.
Among them are:
- Birth Defects
- Heart disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Diabetes
- Parkinson’s disease
- ADHD, or attention deficit disorder
- Respiratory illness
- Multiple sclerosis
- Obesity
- Depression
- Autism
- Liver disease
How is it that Roundup causes cancer?
As for how Roundup causes Non Hodgkin Lymphoma, that involves its main active ingredient, a herbicide known as glyphosate. Scientists around the world are finding alarming levels of glyphosate in food supplies, water supplies and the air people breathe. This glyphosate has been used in increasingly large amounts in many parts countries, making Roundup the biggest selling herbicide on Earth.
But while Monsanto makes billions of dollars, innocent people suffer. In part that’s because Roundup causes cancer, especially after sustained exposure over a long period of time, or after exposure to large amounts of glyphosate.
Indeed, researchers have found higher levels of glyphosate in the bodies of persons who are sick compared to persons who are well.
Levels of Roundup Use Increase Chances of Cancer
The extremely high levels of Roundup use have contributed to findings that Roundup causes Non Hodgkin Lymphoma and cancer. Since Monsanto created glyphosate and began selling it as Roundup in 1974, sales have been steady for the company. But business really began booming when Monsanto shrewdly began selling genetically engineered seeds for such crops as cotton, canola, soy, sugar beets and alfalfa, making them immune to Roundup’s weed-killing properties.
Known as Roundup Ready, these are GMO crops, or genetically modified organisms. The more that such crops were planted, the more that farmers also sprayed Roundup on their crops. Monsanto had first claimed that its GMO crops would mean less herbicide would be needed to be sprayed. But why would a company invent something to compel fewer sales of one of its major products?
In reality, the widespread usage of Roundup Ready crops boosted herbicide spraying in America by more than 520 million pounds from 1996 to 2011. But Monsanto wasn’t done. It also managed to encourage farmers to spray still more Roundup on crops as a dessicant, meaning it could help them to dry out more readily for harvesting. This led to other crops such as oats, peas, wheat, dry beans, barley, flax, sugarcane, lentils and soybeans also being sprayed with Roundup -- and more Americans being subjected to harmful glyphosate.
Roundup Cancer Studies
Since it became suspected that Roundup causes Non Hodgkin Lymphoma and cancer, cancer studies of the chemical have been prevalent. Such studies have found that greater rates of cancer among persons exposed to Roundup products probably is due to glyphosate causing DNA damage, a fact established by lab tests.
One study of Roundup side effects involved 65,000 persons living in farm communities in Argentina. Surveys of these persons’ cancer rates showed them to be twice as high, or even four times bigger, than the same nation’s national average. Among persons living in farm communities where Roundup was sprayed, more people suffered lung, prostate and breast cancer.
In fact, two villages in Argentina were compared, with one being exposed to Roundup spraying, while the other was not. In the village where Roundup was used by farmers, 31 per cent of people had a family member suffering cancer, compared to just 3 per cent of those living in a different village.
These Roundup statistics make it clear that Roundup causes cancer.
